Neville's memory?
« on: June 14, 2007, 01:33:35 PM »

Poor Neville. His memory is notoriously bad, and there's been indication from Jo that this might be because of it being magically wiped in the past.

What if Neville was the other person at the Potter's that night?

I don't know if that's possible at all, because why would he be having a play-date with Harry when Harry's parents were on the run, but .... well, it occurred to me, so I thought I'd pass it along. :)

Interesting theory.  We still do not know what James did for a living; maybe the Potters were trying to protect Neville (if he was there) after his parents had been attacked by the Lestranges.

I would imagine if his memory was wiped, a good reason would be if he may have witnessed what happened to his parents.  I could see his Grams not wanting any trace of that memory in his head.

I wonder if his memory was wiped, if that could explain why he did not exhibit magical talents until late in his development.  Perhaps he was very talented as a baby, but the magic used on his memory suppressed some of his talents.

Sorry, I am rambling . . .

What other person are you referring to, Ping?  Was there someone else at the Potters' home that night that LV killed James and Lily?

It never occurred to me that maybe Neville was so forgetful because of magic as opposed to because, well, it's Neville.

As a side note, I love the fact that the two possible boys who could have been the fulfillment of the prophecy have such ordinary (and perhaps even slightly geekish) names.

I believe JKR said there was someone at the house besides the Potters and LV. If I have time, I'll rootle around and find a quote about that.

It could just be that he's Neville, but it was made such a big deal of in the first book, and the woman who bumped into LV had had her memory altered, and it made her more forgetful. So maybe... :D

Ooooooh, could it have been LV himself who did Neville's memory wipe?
