JKR: Life after Hogwarts
« on: March 03, 2007, 02:14:59 PM »

A friend and I were discussing whether JRK may be growing weary of the world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter, and may be longing for the day when she can write about other things.  What are your thoughts?

I think I remember reading somewhere that she had written an unpublished novel for adults, but I may be wrong.  It will be interesting to see what she choses to write next, or if she choses to write.  Harper Lee never wrote another novel after To Kill a Mockingbird.  JKR has written a series with such a strong following, I wonder if readers would be able to accept other works from her.

Well, there's always the option of a pen name. Though with the press being what it is, I don't know how likely that might be.

I can't imagine, once she's through with this many books, never writing another one. But then, writing is what I want to do for a living some day, so I can't imagine stopping at one like Harper Lee, let alone seven like JKR. :)

(Assuming it wasn't Truman Capote, but that is another discussion)

I am struggling with a novel now, and I can't tell you how hard it is for me!!  If I had her abilities, you could not stop me from writing.

Ping, this may be a little off topic, but how far have you gotten in the writing biz?

Me? Not very far, or so it feels like. I have a screenplay that's maybe ... I dunno, 1/2 to 2/3 of the way done. (Minus edits.) A novel that I sorta finished but needs serious revision to include any sort of description. A few short stories that have been rejected by the best.

I've written tons and tons in the last 7 years or so, but most of it...well, they say you have to write a million words of crap first. I've got at least that much covered!
