Proud Day
« on: March 27, 2006, 10:13:26 PM »

The other day my niece wanted to ask me something, so she pulled me into the hallway and said rather confidently.  "I'm a Harry Potter Fan"  So cute at 6 years old.  She can't read properly yet but she's working on it and the HP books are a big rough for her, but she asked if she could borrow my movies.  So the nice aunt that I am, I said she could.

I think I can now do my HP movie fest and have her come over for a sleepover.  Sounds corny I know but I think she'll like it.

What's even better.  Her little 4 year old sister loves the movies more than she does.  They don't have the books so their parents can't read them to them.  But we were taking her home last week after spending the day with my mom and me.  She was sitting in the back and pointing to each letter of the title and saying HARRY POTTER.  It was so cute.

Don't count out reading them to her - My sister-in-law gave the first three books to our 6 year old son for Christmas (over 6 years ago) - He was excited about getting them from his aunt and we decided to read a chapter each night - I wasn't sure how his attention would be until after reading the first few pages, he interupted me and said, 'Mom, you don't have to worry about this book not having too many pictures, because when you read, I can see the pictures in my mind.'

I've read the first chapter to them.  The oldest is really interested in it but her two sisters keep wanting attention while we are reading so it's hard for all of them to grasp it all.

So I had a sleepover with the two cute ones and we were able to get through 1 1/2 HP movies before they dropped.  The oldest I think I'm going to get her the book for her birthday that was yesterday.  That way she can either beg her parents to read it to her or she's learning to read herself now so she'll try ot read it on her own.
