NEWS FLASH!

JKR has just announced from behind the door on her site that HBP is finished and that the release date will be announced publicly in the next 24 hours.

I'm so stoked! Here's the transcript from the site:

Quote
"I know you all expected this to happen on Christmas Day, but I was sure that those of you who celebrate Christmas have better things to do on the day itself than fight your way into my study, whereas those of you who DON'T celebrate Christmas would definitely prefer not to wait until the twenty-fifth, so...

'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' is COMPLETED and has been delivered to my English language publishers, who hope to announce the publication date within twenty four hours.

Although I have joked about HP&THBP racing my third baby into the world, I have in fact had all the time I needed to tinker with the manuscript and I am as happy as I have ever been with the end result. I only hope you feel that it was worth the wait when you finally read it.

Wishing everybody a wonderful holiday and a happy and peaceful 2005,

JK Rowling.

*total and utter shock*

I'll go post details on how to get through the door in the JKR site thread.

[EDIT:] Should I have made this a little more spoiler friendly? I was too excited to think about that when I posted, but maybe I should change it... Ping? What do you think?

... It's not really a spoiler, is it? Release dates are generally not spoilerific. But that's just me, so yeah.

Anyway, it's great news. ;D When d'you guys think it'll be released? I'm betting June next year ... IIRC, the books have had a summer release date so far. Besides, if they released it earlier (like in May) they'd have to compete for attention with blockbusters like ROTS (haha, unfortunate acronym) and finals and such.

Xan--never noticed that actonym before. Too funny.

Darn, the release date is after my mom's birthday. Guess I'll have to find something else to get her. :)

Do you need more cushions? Ice cream? Something to drink? Of course! Water! This woman needs water! What are you all standing around for?

*pours Mad a glass of water*

So you're going to name it Shelly, right?  ;D

Now now.  //peers over her glasses// You all know better than to fuss like that over an expectant mother.

And besides, ju is  a *much* better name for a baby.  Then you can say "Oh my little juju."  "O my little Cho" just doesn't have the same ring.

I think Rachel is better, for a girl. For a boy, I've always liked the name Michael and Isaac.

Someone told me that HBP is already a bestseller in pre-orders, I wonder if that's true? That's pretty cool.

*whispers to Mad* Permless has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

On-topic, I don't think I'll be pre-ordering online ... if I do, it'll be from a local bookstore and not a site, like I did for OOTP. If I ordered online it'd take too long to arrive. :P

Is anyone else feeling like this is a bit surreal? I mean, there was such a looong wait for OOTP that, I dunno, I'm just finding it hard to believe that we're getting the 6th book already! ;D

I preordered online through Amazon.comOOTP and Amazon sent them out a day early!  I knew someone who got hers before the "official" release date.  I'm preordering online.  Rather, my parents will be preordering on line for me.  ;D

Besides, I can wait one day, if that's all it is.  It's not like I'd read the entire thing in one day anyway.....  this time.

You know, it's been so long I can't remember if we got it the day of or not.  I've been thinking about whether to pre-order or not.  I don't think I'll be doing any stake-outs at nine-months-pregnant, though.  (I'm due July 19th, and it will serve you all right if it's a boy!  ....  Where's that congratulations thread??  *wanders off*)
