anagrams in HP books
« on: July 15, 2004, 06:05:40 PM »

I've noticed that there are some anagrams in the Harry Potter books like "dolores jane umbridge" is "dumbledore goes in jar".Dumbledore was a way to say bumblebee a long time ago maybe Dumbledore is a bee and Rita was a beetle and Hermione put Rita in a jar.Maybe theres somthing thats going to happen to Rita and Dumbledore. If you have any more anagrams and thories please post them here.

Look at this:

Snape Evans
Epans Snave

nifty, huh?

And if you scramble Lily and Severus, you set Snivellus!, or Snivelly. but you have to delete letters, so I don't think they count.

Well, that's generally what writers do.  ;)  And good writers tend to put clues or little puzzles in to either foreshadow or just for fun.

Okay, okay.  The Cheater's Anagram Finder is somewhere online.  That's all I'm going to say about the matter.  You'll have to find out the rest for yourselves.

You know, there's only so far I think you can take the anagram thing. I think a lot of it is just coincidence. Except the one JKR herself pointed out. But I'm a skeptic. :)

Sorry, but no, most of the ones listed here I just don't buy, except the one that JKR made and told us herself. The rest of these--what do they mean? Nadda, if you ask me.

Sorry, but I just don't believe.  :-\

Nope. Interesting, and I could always be wrong, but it's just a coincidence. Until proven otherwise, anyway. :)

I'm with Ping.  I mean, JKR has even said she was thinking of names for Hogwarts, and that one just seemed to fit.  ...  Okay, the way she actually said it sounded like she wasn't messing with anagrams... to me.   :-[

I'll shut up now.

Ditto Mad and Ping on that one.  If you want a fuller exposition of my views on the matter, see my recent post in the "number 4" thread in the Shrieking Shack.  Pretty much everything I said there applies here.

Couldn't find it, Susan, and even if I did, you're so vague that I wouldn't have a clue where to start.  :p  That is, if I'm supposed to input words to find anagrams when I find the anagram finder, which I can't.  Not by that name, anyway, and not with Google.  Any hints?

Hmm ... Google doesn't give anything for "Cheater's Anagram Finder". So that's probably a nickname for the tool ... and I have a hunch this anagram finder is linked to that dude who does HP speculation, whats-her-name.

Though I suppose any anagram finder would do ...

But to find anagrams with such unusual words as "Dumbledore" and "muggle" we need a Harry Potter anagram finder.  Right, Susan?
