I'm just starting this to see which actors everyone would pick for the HP characters, had they been they ones to choose.

Hmm...that's a toughie! I think I'd do the following

Hermione Granger - I'd keep Emma Watson. I have the perfect picture of her.  ;)

Ron Weasley - My cousin Cody, may not be the perfect actor, but reminds me just of Ron from the books!

Harry Potter - I can't think of any actor who fits him...I'd probably just keep Dan Radcliffe. ;)

Hagrid - Rupert Boneham, who won America's choice for favorite Survivor.  ;D With my vote, that is.  :D

Albus Dumbledore - I've always thought of Donald Trump, the millionaire dude...I've never imagined Professor Dumbledore with a beard, because I always thought of Donald Trump.  ;)

Those are most of the main characters anyway...

Ew I hated Rupert. I so wanted him to lose. He was always so condescending towards the female contestants "little Jenna, young Jenna, single momma Jenna." Ew. I can't stand him. I'm a big ole Boston Rob girl.  ;D

I don't know a lot of British actors, but I know I always wanted Sir Alec Guinness to be Dumbledore. But he died even before Richard Harris, so that wouldn't have really worked out.

*grumbles* I like Rupert...and have you seen what he's been doing with the money? Spending it on this Kids Help program. Charity, in other words.

I would have loved Johnny Depp as Sirius.  I always pictured Sirius to be "pretty."

I would cast John Malkovitch as YKW.

I saw this on a casting page and thought it was PERFECT.  For Fudge: Rowan Atkinson (aka Mr. Bean.)  Ooooooh, he'd be SOOO GOOOD!

Have any of you seen Enchanted April?  I can't remember the character name, but my husband suggested the sleazy novel-writing husband guy for Ludo Bagman.

Johny Depp would be great as Sirius, at least in my opinion.  ;D

John Malkovitch? What roles has he played before? (Because I can't remember him....)

Rowan Atkinson...oh yeah, him...good idea Mad!

Enchanted April is really good...*starts racking brains* I can't remember that dude's name either...

*charms everyone*

I think Rickman in his "Die Hard" persona would make a good Karkaroff.

For Fleur Delacoeur, Keira Knightley.

For Mad Eye Moody, Jack Nicholson.  (I know he's not British, but hypothetically speaking...)

And I need to keep thinking for the perfect Lupin, because I've always been a little sweet on him.

I've always thought Fleur should be animated, because I picture Veela was shimmering hair that real actors can't have, and I guess I just like their animation parts. They did such a good job with Quidditch in the first movie!

I think the whole darn thing should be animated.  And a series instead of movies.  Or a series of movies.  Or SOMETHING.

No, Lupin needs to be a bit more haggard, but more nice to james instead of lilly.

how about Viggo Mortenson for Sirius? I like that!

J. Malcovich plays jeckyll/Hyde in Mary Reilly with Julia Roberts.

I sorta like Viggo M for Sirius.  He'd have the right look.  Of course, the guy they had (why can I not recall his name right now??) did a fantastic acting job, I thought.

I like the idea of Jack Nicholson for Mad Eye/Crouch Jr.

Lupin, no idea.  Hard to guess, really.  No one I can think of matches my image of him.

Assuming that we go away from the all-British bias, which in some cases is justified and others not so much.

Harry Potter: Haley Joel Osmet. One of the best young actors EVER.

Hermione: Someone else. Me as a young girl, perhaps. I do not like Emma Watson's portrayal. Hermione was a no-it-all, not a snot. Big difference.

Ron: *shrug* Can't think of anyone.

Draco: The kid who's playing him. I think he's doing a great job, and is a good actor, as well.

Sirius: I second the Viggo nomination. (Or third or fourth it. Whatever...) :) Or Alan Rickman.

Karkaroff: Gary Oldman.

Dumbledore: Ian McKellan. Because I'm abusing my powers and making him be a wizard twice. So sue me. :P

Lupin: Ewan McGregor, except he's probably got too much of a baby face, and I'd hate to see him in a beard again. :) Anthony Andrews would do a good job, I think. (Though I haven't seen him in anything recently, and he might be a bit on the Way Too Old side. Oooo, a young Peter Davison! Yay! *ahem* Susan, does this come with a Time Turner as well? :D

Mad-Eye Moody: Willem Defoe. (Mr. Osbourne in the first Spidey movie, the EPA guy in Ghostbusters, and a whole lot of other roles.)

Oh, and Professor McGonagall: I dunno, but some one who actually looks younger than Dumbledore!

OKay, that's enough fun abusing my powers for now. :D

There is a funny article on The Spoof (http://www.thespoof.com/news/spoof.cfm?headline=s4i5179)suggesting Michael Moore to direct the film version of book 6.

I know Lupin isn't necessarily supposed to be hot, but how Hugh Jackman would be nice...we know he can play a werewolf, AND he turns me into a teenybopper all over again.   ;D

And ooh...Dawn French has already made an appearance, so I think Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) would be great as Rita Skeeter!!!  If you check out her picture on IMDB, she already has the look, too.

Much as I detest Umbridge, dude, that would be a fun role to play! Imagine how EVIL you could be!

*ahem*

Can anyone find the name of this Poltergeist psychic? I'd love to look her up. :)

Okay, Hugh Jackman as Sirius, Colin Firth as Lupin!!  WOOHOOO!

(As nice-looking as Hugh Jackman is, I think he's a little to... um... gruff? square-jawed? mischievous-looking? for Lupin.  I see Lupin as very smooth, thin, and mild-mannered.  You know, as an adult.  I think Colin Firth could do it!

Oh, and I could also see Kevin Kline as Lupin, because Harry describes him as young with a lined face and gray hair.  I think Kevin Kline isn't too old to fit.  He's got the right facial shape for my idea of Lupin.

Yes.  The only problem with Kevin Kline is that I've never seen him in an even semi-serious role, so I have a hard time imagining him doing a good job with the acting out of it.

Actually, he took pictures of us and made us say our names, cause this camera records sound. he put it on his computer so he could remember our names. Go figure.

He does look a bit like Thewlis, but the way he holds himself, pride and all, is similar to Lupin.

Even if he's not British, i will forever stand by the fact that Clint Eastwood would make the best Mad Eye Moody ever. No possible contenders.

Ooh I like that idea! Clint Eastwood would be really good as Mad Eye. He could fake an English accent.
And I agree, Hugh Jackman would have been the PERFECT Sirius!!!
I really don't like the actor who plays Ron... Anyone but him. His facial expressions just don't look right.
And maybe Natalie Portman as Tonks...

I'm sorry, Cerebus, but ew.  I disagree.  In part because she looks too young.  Well, not really, but with the trio looking to old, she doesn't look old enough to be enough older than them.  Um... right.

I keep picturing Tonks looking like a short haired Kate Winslet.

Ew.  I keep picturing her looking a lot like Madam Hooch, but younger, and with... less disconcerting eyes.  ;)  You know, a more normal color.

Oh, not me. I pictured her as a lot younger than Madam Hooch. Kate Winslet wouldn't be so bad for Tonks, IMO. Neither would Cameron Diaz, or any other of the young actresses with reasonable acting skill.

And I always thought Sean Connery would make a great Moody, if only for the voice.

I just don't see her with such a round face.  Didn't the book say she had a kind of pointy chin or something?

Yeah, its hard to say how that'll work out, if she changes the shape of her face. They could do it with computers, but it would be hard to keep the new look sustained for a long time that way. I suppose she'll have a regular form that she keeps returning too. Or they might just cut her out entirely, which would disappoint me.

  Dude, Shelly, I have to wait an hour so I can charm you for that again!  I NEEDED a laugh today.  Thank you.

I have very little hope for the future of these movies, but I think I should get around to seeing #3 because I like Emma Thompson, and I want to see her as Trelawney.  They'd better not cut the Christmas dinner scene in book 4!  But, of course, they will, otherwise they'll have to cut out the first task or something.

Evil filmmaking monsters....

Crazy thought here.  Malkovich as Mad-Eye Moody.

And I think that Johnny Depp would, indeed, have made an excellent Black.

As for Fleur...why not Kate Beckinsale?  Anybody ever see her in Underworld?  Mm-mm!  Just work with the hair, and there you go!

I don't know if he's been cut or not. I haven't heard many rumors about the movie. Anyone have a spy on the inside who can fill us in? :)

No, but I have to agree that Tim Curry would be perfect for it.

Now, who to get to play whats-his-name, Krum's headmaster...

Whoa... Elizabeth Hurley as Beatrix Lestrange? http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2005-02-21/#3

Movie bosses are pursuing Elizabeth Hurley to play a wicked witch in forthcoming sequel Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. The 39-year-old British beauty is being lined up to play evil Bellatrix Lestrange, a member of Potter nemesis Voldemort's gang, in the fifth film of the popular wizard series. A source says, "The producers have tried to keep details of the cast under wraps but they have always wanted someone beautiful and mystical to play Bellatrix and they reckon Liz can pull it off." Before Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix hits screens audiences will first be treated to fourth film Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, due for release in November.

I've never even heard of her. Why do I keep feeling like the cast and crew are moving more and more away from children's movie people and into ... well, less wholesome levels of entertainment?

I think that was just a rumor. I read that on MuggleNet, and then they dismissed it as a rumor.

Don't recognize her at all. Haven't seen anything she's been in, except maybe an Inspector Morse ep. Her picture is ... scary. Botox=bad.

I picture Bellatrix as being more evil-matronly, like Mrs. Trunchbull from Matilda.

I think Elizabeth Hurley is most famous for being Hugh Grant's girlfriend - then they broke up and she had a baby from some other guy - anyway - the part wouldn't be that big - it kinda makes you think her publicist just wanted to get her name out there.

That's quite possible. If you want to get someone publicized, pretend they've been cast for Harry Potter, I guess!

Of course, that makes me less likely to want them in my fantasy version of HP. :)
