Yo-ho, yo-ho......
« on: May 31, 2004, 08:20:31 PM »

......it's off to work we go.

I found myself wondering what everybody here does for a living (if they're not students, that is).  I know Heather is a lawyer, I think Cho is a teacher, and Marold runs a catering (?) business, but I was curious to see if any House had the lion's share of any particular occupation.

I'll start......I, Bonesy, am in the entertainment industry.

I was a teacher, but three years ago I left teaching and went to law school, from which I just graduated two weeks ago and am currently studying for the bar exam in Indiana.  Come September, I'll be working for a law firm in Washington DC.

I have to admit, however, that in my heart, I'm always a teacher, too.

I'm an Illustrator... but while I'm setting up my own business, I answer other people's phones to pay the bills. I'll work full time till I finish up my last few classes, then next spring, I hope to work only part-time and spend lots more hours on artwork instead of in an office.

I own a wedding decorating company with my mother.  ::) We've had it since I was 18 so nearly 5 years now.

but I'm also a temp to keep up on bills when weddings are slow.  I want to be a financial advisor and get my interior design cert. as well.  Course that means getting my butt back into school.

I'm a program assistant at www.crdf.org. I do paperwork and web stuff and theoretically help Russians out in the US, but often they know more what's going on than I do. :)

I work in the childrens section at Chapters, a huge book store. I think we've only got 'em in Canada. Anyways, I'm just working there part time until I finish up school. I love working in a book store. I never run out of things to read and I get to sell Harry Potter to people all the time :) We had a big party for the fifth book. It's fun.

I'm in Indiana. Cho was there. Where at?

I'm also a full-time student on summer break! ::) I think I'm too mature for that, but age is the only thing that matters, apparently.

LaGrange, up by the Indiana/Michigan line. We're about 10 minutes from Sturgis, if you know where that is. And about an Hour from Ft. Wayne.

Just a reminder that this thread is not about where we all live but what we all do for a living, if anything.

I'm currently clerking at a law firm where I help bad guys, and go to law school in the fall and spring.

But what I *really* am is my dog's nanny.   ::)

I'm a MOM.  And a part-time student.  Well, less than part-time, really, in my spare time, but there's not much of that.  I make my husband make a living.  ;)  Okay, actually, he does it quite willingly, and has no desire to have me work (you know, for money, just around the house.  ;))  I think that's awfully nice of him.

I'm near Detroit!  We could... I dunno, find a central meeting place for those of us in the Great Lakes/Northern-Mid-West area and have a party! ... Maybe.  :p

High School student in the CA Bay Area.

But i've got a job too! Really! I'm not a slacker!  :P

I work with kids at a local comic shop. We run an afterschool/summer program for kids, where we play a game a lot like D&D (i'm such a nerd). But our system requires you know some math, and the game play requires planning, and adjusted social skills, and we even go out and play firsbee.

So secretly, were not running a game at all, but programing young, mal-adjusted, pasty nerd kids to grow up to be functioning parts of society and all around better people.

Although, no matter how you put it, its still a bit dorky, seeing as my job title is "Game Master".  ::)

Dude, AZ, that is SO COOL!!! What system do you use? Man, I'm so jealous!

I technically am in line for a promotion or something at work. But no one is saying anything, and I'm confused. I think we're waiting to hire someone to do the program assistant stuff, but they're also going to need to get a project specialist on board, because I'm doing some of that, too. *sigh*

Yes, this last week, and until the 19th, I'm doing 4 jobs. My regular job, my web job, my project management job, and Brooks's job, because he took off for vacation. Man, I need a break!

Time? What is time? I don't need time. I can make my own!

Er, something.

I don't really have a lot of energy when I get home. I come home, veg and eat dinner, do a few things, and go to bed, most nights. Though last night I helped put together my roommate's Ikea desk. Man, I should assemble furniture for a living! I'm good at it, and it's fun! :)

They're making progress on hiring someone, though. We have another interview scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, for the temp, and I'm praying everyone likes her and that we hire her so that I can stop doing all this crap that I'm doing.

Sleep is over-rated.  I learned that in college and just haven't adjusted back to the real world.  Though that does mean that about once a month I just collapse and cancel everything one night and just do nothing!  But it's so hard to schedule "nothing" because you keep getting offers to do all sorts of other fun things.   ;)  I'd rather be busy than bored.

I agree.  I'd rather be busy than bored ... or lonely.  However, being just a bit older than Saffron Lotus, I find I cant' quite ignore the need to sleep just a bit earlier anymore.

Yeah, I used to be able to do that, but I can't anymore. When my sleeping habits were really off because of depression and medication, I would go for a week with only a few hours, but then I'd crash on Friday. Which just messed me up for the weekend and the coming week. *shudder* I'm glad I don't do that anymore. Yay Ambien!

Hey there.  I'm a student, freshman year, at BYU in Utah.  Not working this semester, probably next one.

By the way, I am so glad to see that there's a HS student here...for a second I felt like a young'un reading through the thread!

Yeah, Sirius, Lauren, AZ and I are High Schoolers, and we have a couple of Middle Schoolers, too. Morgan and Morrin are like... 13 I think... and... I think there are others, too, but I'm having trouble remembering.
