Sirius' Motorbike
« on: August 08, 2004, 10:42:40 AM »

I hope this topic hasn't come up yet, but:
I read in the thread 'JKR Interview Questions' a question I find very interesting:

Quote
Q:  Whatever happend to Sirius' flying motorbike?
A:   Ah, good question. You'll find out, but the real sleuths among you might be able to guess.

I can't find a good guess... Any ideas?

Well, it was last seen with Hagrid. We've no reason to suppose he doesn't have it somewhere. :)

Well ... I was just reading the first book a couple of days ago, and Hagrid does mention taking Sirius his bike back.

So, assuming that he does that right away - Sirius would have had his bike when he went to confront Pettigrew, right? Because the blowing-up incident was a few days after LV's 'death', IIRC.

So, if that happened, Sirius coulda done anything with it. Maybe it's locked up in Gringotts or something.

I believe there is a discussion on this under Missuse of Muggle Artifacts. But, now we have the field narrowed down a bit.

So we think Sirius was still around when Hagrid went to give him his bike back?  For some reason I thought he was long gone after Peter.  I guess it depends on if he thought he could track him down faster on his bike or with magic, but then....  I suppose, no matter what else was happening, he would want to get Harry somewhere safe as quickly as humanly possible, especially if he knew that Voldemort was specifically after Harry.  I've always wanted to know more about Hagrid running into Sirius and what happened there.

Could the bike be at Grim. Place?

This is an interesting discussion, I can't wait to see where else it goes.  10 points to Cerberus for starting the discussion and 5 points to Mad and Xan for their contributions.

Thanks Heather :)

Right. But those answers are a bit too easy, don't you think? If she wouldn't answer the question in the interview, there's obviously something weird going on and it's linked to the bike.  Or am I just getting crazy ideas?

What if Mr. Weasley has it?

Hey, I just noticed something.  Grimmauld Place.  Grim. Place.  Sirius was mistaken for a Grim in PoA.  Okay, I just thought that was kind of neat.  Excuse me.

Oooh, that IS really neat :D

I doubt it... Why would Mr Weasley get it? They were never friends of Sirius until the OoP.

Because he's in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, most likely.

Hmm ... what happens to a wizard's posessions after he gets thrown into Azkaban? I mean, obviously his vault goes untouched - or Sirius wouldn't have been able to buy Harry the Firebolt - and so did his house. So ... Sirius' bike would probably have been just locked up somewhere.

Maybe, if Hagrid didn't return it after all (maybe he couldn't find Sirius, or something) he might be keeping it.

Or something.

Excuse me, but in the first book, doesn't Hagrid get the bike from Sirius?  Sirius gives it to him, saying that he won't need it anymore.  This, we find out later, is because he's going to confront Pettigrew.  Now, Hagrid, I assume, still has it through the first four books; he just keeps it off of Hogwarts grounds because Muggle items wouldn't necessarily function properly (case in point: the Weasley car).

We were in Grimmauld Place, and not a sign of the motorbike was there (that was referred to, granted).

It's been a while since I have gotten enough time to re-read any of the HP books.  Did any mention of the bike come up in book 5?

No.  It wasn't referred to at all in book 5.  So the point of the question is:  what did Hagrid do with the bike?  Has it been stowed somewhere?  Did he get rid of it altogether when he heard that Sirius had betrayed James and Lily?

Well,  ;Dthe weasleys car is lost in the woods, and the motorbike may be there too, kept by Hagrid. Maybe the car and the bike fell in love, got married and had a couple of bicycles... Just a joke, of course!!!
