"What house elves? There are house elves here? What's happening? What's weird? Why are we heading down to the Hufflepuff Common Room? House elves? Here? Happening? Weird? Common Room?" Angelina rambled as she followed the other three down towards the kitchens. Of course, she was oblivious to the fact that house elves existed, as she was more interested in the food rather than how it got there, and the comfortable bed rather than how it became comfortable.

Shelly, Christine and Willow were all more than a little annoyed as Angelina continued to ask questions, except she had now gone slightly off topic. "Werewolves? Here? Food? Common Room? Wait, no, that's not right." she paused for a moment, and then smiled. "Oh yeah. House elves? Here? Happening? Weird? Common Room?" the others groaned, and soon a silencio was cast, but Angelina did not realise it, and carried on mouthing the words, thinking that the words she was thinking were coming out of her mouth.

"So.. you think somethings amiss?" asked Willow as she slumped down into a chair.
"Er, I'm sorry but were you actually there these past few hours? Ofcourse somethings amiss! Did you actually notice anything!" Christine snapped.
"Yeh, one of the house elves was wearing the cutest prada shoes!" exclaimed Willow.
Everyone groaned, except for Angelina who was quite content mouthing her little chant with great enthusiasm and now a little dance had occured.
"Hello, a houself.. shoes.. expensive shoes! Its not like them, even for free houseelves, I mean, socks they'll wear but little stillettos that cost like £700. Well, dumbledore must be paying alot or..."
She let the lost words hang in the air with a smug satisfaction, see, she wasn't a total bimbo.

"Dumbledore is not buying his house elves designer shoes!"  Christine practically shouted, gaining some rather uncomfortable stares from her classmates seated around the common room.  Willow was really getting on her nerves.

"Then how do you explain the elf wearing them?"  she shot back.

"I don't think that was a house-elf." said Shelly, still standing atop Angelina's palm.

"Then what do you think it was?" asked Christine.  She didn't shout at Shelly; she wasn't mad at her.

"I don't know, but I intend to find out."  she replied determinedly.

After several silent moments, Christine remembered something.  "Hardie." she blurted out suddenly, turning her gaze on Willow.

"What are you babbling about now?" asked Willow, staring at her like she was mad.

"Well, you asked what my last name is, and it's Hardie." she replied, much more calmly than before.  "And I wanted to break the silence."

"Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?"

Shelly sat down on Angelina's hand and rested her back up against her thumb. Really, once you got used to it, it wasn't so bad being an inch tall. But Shelly had her attention focused on other matters. Now that they were no longer trapped, Shelly could think about that strange house elf she had spoken to. Tinny had behaved more like a spoiled child than a house elf, and while Shelly knew that Dumbledore was more accepting of non-elfish behavior than most, she still highly doubted that he would take an elf on, give her pricey shoes, build a swimming pool for her enjoyment, and not expect her to work. It was a conundrum, and Shelly was beginning to think that it couldn't have been a house elf at all.

Just then, Shelly's stomach let out a grumble which seemed quite loud to her, but which was barely audible to the Hufflepuffs surrounding her. She beckoned Angelina down so that she could be heard, and said in her ear "Could you take me to my office? I need to get an antidote and unshrink myself."

All three of the Hufflepuffs obliged, and escorted Angelina and Shelly to the sixth floor, where her office stood. That was one thing Shelly had noticed about Hufflepuffs--they never let each other go anywhere alone. It wasn't that strange, Shelly supposed, but at the same time, she was glad she hadn't been a Hufflepuff. She wouldn't like a crowd following her every time she went to the loo.

Once they were outside Shelly's office, Angelina twisted the handle of the door, but it did not open. Shelly remembered that she had locked her office before she left, as she always did. Even worse... Shelly took her keyring out of her pocket and shook it. The keys had shrunk with the rest of her, even though her potions hadn't. She had never quite worked out how to control what would shrink and what wouldn't when she took the potion. It seemed to have something to do with how close the object was to your person. For example, her clothes almost always shrank along with her, although sometimes when she was wearing a cloak, it failed to shrink. Since the keys had been in her pocket, they must have been close enough for the potion to effect them. The keyring was now so small that, were Angelina to breathe too heavily in her direction, it would be easily blown away like a speck of dust.

Shelly, always one to wear her emotions on her sleeve, laid down inside Angelina's lifeline and covered her face in her hands. Living like a squib was incredibly frustrating at times. If only Shelly could be allowed to use her wand, she would be so happy. She had only been two months from her N.E.W.T.'s when she was expelled, and those lousy two months made the difference between owning her own Apothecary in Hogsmeade and living like a Muggle in Hogwarts. Shelly had no desire to crawl under the door again and attempt to reach her stock by herself. She was so distraught, she didn't even think about asking one of the girls with her to either unlock the door or enlarge her keys by magic, she just lay there and stared at the door to her office as though it were her worst enemy. And she was still hungry.

Willow pulled out a piece of gum and started chewing.
"What are you...?" started Christine angrily as she shoved the gum in the keyhole, there was a loud explosion and the door opened. Willow smiled smugly to herself.
"Oh yeah cause a simple spell wouldnt have worked better! What if someone heard? What Filch heard!" cried Christine.
"I was only trying to help..." started Willow hotly.
"Come on! Everyone inside!" Shelly squeeked quickly.

They all obeyed, filing into Shelly's cramped office.  Angelina was at the head of the pack.  "Put me down on the floor." Shelly ordered.  As soon as her feet touched the floor, she began issuing out other orders.  "Angelina, get the antidote.  It's on the right hand side of the second shelf."  Angelina picked up the small bottle that was sitting there.  "Christine, shut the door and get some light in here."  She pushed the door closed and lit one of the wall torches with her wand.  "Willow,"  Shelly continued, "go back to your common room."

"What!" she exclaimed.  "I'm not going anywhere!"  She crossed her arms and leaned against one of the free walls.

"Well, if you really want to stay, I can't be responsible for what happens to you." Shelly squeaked.  Willow looked suddenly terrified.  Her arms dropped to her sides and she walked forward.

"Wh- What happens to me?"  Willow stuttered.  "What will happen?"

"Well,"  began Christine, catching on to Shelly's plan,  "There's no way to know for sure what will happen, but what we'll be doing will most likely be dangerous.  You'll probably get hurt, or worse."  she said.

"Worse?  Worse?" Willow gulped, her skin growing pale.  She looked like she could faint at the drop of a hat.  Angelina looked like she wanted to burst out laughing, and Christine didn't blame her.  How could anyone not realize that they were being played when it was so obvious?

"I- I'm staying."  Willow decided after a few moments.  She looked more scared than before, but just as resolute.

"Okay,"  said Shelly, "If you really want to, then go stand guard outside the door.  We'll be out in a minute."

Willow practically jumped at the chance to leave the office.  In a flash she was gone from the room and standing next to the door in the outside corridor.  Angelina managed to contain herself for a few more moments, then burst into quiet laughter.  "Man, I was kind of hoping we could scare her away." Christine said softly, casting a backwards glance at the door.

"Yeah, well, we can deal with her."  said Shelly.  She beckoned for Angelina to set the potion she was still holding down on the floor.  Once the bottle was in front of her, she looked up at Christine.  "Could you lift me up?  I need to get a finger in the potion, but the bottle is too tall."

Christine nodded, and made her way over to Shelly.  She held her palm out for Shelly to step onto and raised it to the top of the bottle.  "Hold my legs." Shelly ordered.  Christine took her tiny legs, careful not to press too hard for fear of crushing them.  Shelly stuck her arm into the bottle until her finger broke the surface of the liquid.  She withdrew her finger, and swung herself upright on Christine's hand.  "You'd better put me down for this."

Christine set Shelly down on the floor again, then backed away.  Shelly licked the potion off her finger.  She grew to the size she had been down in the HERRC.  Then Shelly picked up the bottle and drank the remaining potion.  She returned to her original size.  "That's much better."  Shelly said, as her stomach growled again, and this time they all heard it.

[OOC: Hopefully willow isn't upset, but just for future reference, I'd like to point something out. While in an RP, it tends to be better manners to try to refrain from controlling other people's characters too much. Some control is often unavoidable, and understandable, but it's best to keep it to a minimum. I like to leave people with a choice to make at the end of my RP posts, and I try to refrain from posting dialogue from other people. Controlling other people's characters is known as "god-moding" in very strict RP boards. It's not really a big deal to me, but I know some people who are so picky about it that they won't join an RP if there is god-moding around. Basically, it just helps the characters to feel as though they are all equally controlling the direction the RP moves in, rather than being puppeted around.

Sorry if that sounded too lecture-y. Like I said, it's not really a big deal, because Hogsmeade isn't a very strict RP forum, and as you've probably noticed, I'm guilty of a bit of god-moding, too. I just thought you guys might like to know.  :)]

Wow, Shelly felt good to be her normal size again. Shelly noticed the other two girls looking around her office. Shelly hadn't exactly been expecting company, and she blushed a bit as she realized that it was a bit of a mess. She decided that now would be a good time to leave, but just as she was trying to shoo everyone out, she glanced over to a corner of her office, where a small cauldron was sitting. Angelina was looking curiously at the contents of the cauldron. Shelly, who had forgotten that she was not small anymore, yelled at the top of her voice "DON'T TOUCH THAT!" causing Angelina to leap backward in fear. Shelly winced a bit as she realized how loud she had spoken. "Sorry," said Shelly, more calmly this time, "but please don't touch that. It's very delicate."

A voice from behind, probably Christine, said eagerly "Oooh, what is it?"

Well, that was an awkward question if ever Shelly had heard one. While brewing a simple shrinking solution probably could be overlooked if the headmaster or the Ministry came to call, a complex potion such as the one that Shelly was brewing would be harder to explain. But Shelly decided on the truth--she was a terrible liar.

"It's Felix Felicis," mumbled Shelly, offering no explanation as to what the potion's effects were. "I've never been able to get it right; this is the third time I've tried, and it's the farthest I've gotten without messing up. It takes six months to brew it properly, and right now it needs to mature, completely undisturbed, for nine more days. So please, please, don't touch."

Ignoring the stares of Angelina and Christine, Shelly nudged them in the direction of the door, casting one look back at the cauldron before she left. Once outside the door, they met up with Willow. Shelly set a very fast pace in the direction of the Great Hall. Everything else that was on their minds could wait until after Shelly got some dinner.

Angelina's stomach grumbled. Shelly was not the only hungry one. Having completely forgotten why she had come downstairs al that time ago, Angelina followed Shelly to the kitchens, almost bouncing.
"So, you're saying that there are house elves that actually work in Hogwarts, and that they work in the kitchen, which is very, very close to the Hufflepuff common room?" she asked, eyees wide.
"Yes." Shelly replied.
Angleina stopped. "How come I didn't know earlier?" she exclaimed, and started walking again. "So if the house elves are in the kitchen, are we solving this whole spoilt house elf debacle at the same time as getting some grub?"
"Yes."
"Good plan. I hope they have tortillas."

As the Hufflepuffs went off to find their seats, Shelly walked up to the head of the Great Hall and took her seat at the very end of the staff table. It seemed that the more important you were, the closer to the center of the table you were, what with Dumbledore dead center, McGonagall on his right-hand side, and Filch on the opposite end of the table as Shelly. Sometimes it was a little intimidating eating at the staff table, so she'd switch to an empty seat at the Gryffindor table with Mad or Cho or Sirius. She didn't mind today though--especially since she was now piling her plate so high with mashed potatoes that the ceramic dish was in danger of cracking under the weight. Shelly, completely oblivious to everything but the food in front of her, began to work on her pile of potatoes at an alarming rate.

After she had finished devouring her first helping of potatoes, she grabbed a helping of steamed vegetables from a tray. When she switched from her spoon to her fork, however, she noticed a piece of paper wrapped around the silverware, bound by a rubber band. She removed the paper and opened it up, expecting it to be a receipt from Monseur Magutie's Dinnerware Shop, where Hogwarts purchased all of their silverware. Instead, she was astonished to see a note, written in an untidy scrawl, that said plainly

be ouTsIde the trofy room at 6:30 toNite. No exYusez.

Shelly frowned at the note for a while and glanced at her watch. 6:02. All thoughts of her steamed vegetables forgotten, she stood up and walked in a daze out of the Great Hall, where she could find a quiet place to think.

Willow looked at her plate, she really wasn't hungry, snide comments and cold indifference seem to rotate round her head making her feel dizzier by the second. Sighing, she sipped her pumkin juice trying to push the thoughts from her normally empty head.
"You not hungry?" asked Angelina.
Willow shook her head glumly.
"Can I have your tortilla?"
She nodded and started to fiddle with her ring nervously, the emerald stone shimered in the light so beautifully that she decided to focus all her attention on it, it was better than thinking about how much she was disliked.
"Where's Shelly going?" asled Christine, the only one not focusing her full attention on food (in Angelina's case) or their jewellery.

[OOC:  I'm really sorry Willow!  I do hope I didn't hurt your feelings.  I certainly didn't mean to.]

"I don't know."  said Angelina, taking Willow's tortilla and starting to devour it.  Christine, who had never liked tortillas, watched as Shelly walked out of the Great Hall.  She thought it was odd that Shelly would just get up and walk out in the middle of a meal, especially since she had been complaining of hunger so much.

"Are you going to follow her or what?" asked Willow, futzing with a ring she was wearing.

"Why would you say that?" said Christine, caught slightly off guard by the question.

"I can tell you want to know where she's going, so just follow her." she said.  Willow was avoiding her eyes, seeming to focus all her attention on the ring.

"Is something wrong?"  asked Christine.  Sure, Willow had gotten on her nerves a lot today, but she looked like something was bothering her.

"Shelly's leaving.  If you want to follow her, you'd better make it quick."  she said, ignoring Christine's question.  She still wouldn't make eye contact.

"Do either of you guys want to come too?  Whatever she's up to might have something to do with those elves earlier."  she asked.  Willow really did look upset, and Christine thought that it might have something to do with how she had treated her earlier.  She felt really bad about losing her temper and wanted to make it up to her.

"Ooh!  That sounds like fun, count me in."  said Angelina, having already finished her mound of tortillas.

"Willow?"  Christine questioned, looking at her.

"Do you guys really want me to come?"  She looked nervous.

"Of course we do!" said Christine, rising from her seat.  Angelina stood up too, and took Willow by the arm, lifting her from her seat.

"We'd better move quick, she's already out of the hall." said Christine, and the three set off.
"Who's more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?"

(OOC, don't worry dude its cool and you don't have to make your chracter act all different to mine, its ok!  ;D)
Willow, Christine and Angelina rushed through the hall ways trying to spot Shelly, they were totally deserted and yet they could not find any trace of the girl what so ever.
"This is weird." said Willow nervously, twisting her ring in an agitated way.
Christine frowned and whipped out her wand, the others followed suit, "Tell me about it..."
Her words faded out and a deafening silence beat around their ears, all willow could hear was the quiet but hammering beat of her heart and all she could feel was the heat of her wand in her hand and a burning on her finger. The burning intensified and she screached loudly, sropping her wand and trying to yank the ring off.
"Whats wrong?" cried Angelina.
"My devicening, its burning!" Willow howled.
"Your what?" asked Angelina puzxled.
"Devicening," said Christine looking at Willow, "They are small objects charmed to detect dark magic, why do you..?"
Her words what cut short by Willow, "Daddy makes me wear it, just in case of .. danger." she howled.
"Can't you make it stop?" cried Angelina.
"No!" Willow wept.
Angelinas eyes suddenly flew open, "Dark magic? Whos using dark magic in hogwarts?"
Willow seemed to have calmed but her skin still blistered around her finger, Christine watched on with distaste, protection or not, that sort of thing shouldn't be on a teenager.

Shelly, alone again, had decided to be early to the trophy room to try and find a place to hide and watch. Maybe she'd be able to catch a glimpse of whoever had sent her the note. What did they want with her, anyways? Shelly thought that it must have something to do with the HERRC, but why anyone would send her a scrawled note fraught with mispellings to meet her here, Shelly had no idea.

Once she found the location, she was having difficulty finding a place to hide. She tried hiding under the stairs, but she couldn't see anything. Then she tried to squeeze behind a bust of Chauncey Oldridge, but a blind troll would have been able to spot her there. Finally, with just ten minutes to go before her meeting, Shelly quickly pulled open the door to the trophy room and entered, hoping she'd be able to see if whoever had sent the note was coming out of the HERRC.

It wasn't until after the door slid shut that she realized that she'd probably be locked in, without any potion, wand, or help. Shelly smacked her forehead, and decided that in future, she was going to think things through a bit more carefully before acting. Closing her eyes tight and dreading the results, she turned the doorknob, and breathed a sigh of relief when it clicked open easily. She turned around and quickly found a good hiding spot--crouched behind a large stand, atop which stood the 1936 Quidditch Cup. Shelly frowned slightly when she saw that Ravenclaw had won that year.

About five minutes later, Shelly was beginning to wish she hadn't opted for a crouching position, and was on the verge of straightening up just to alleviate the pain in her knees, when she saw a disturbance in the large tapestry blocking the entrance to the HERRC. She froze, and watched, not sure who she expected to see--Filch maybe, or a giggling student playing a prank on her, or maybe even Tinny. She saw none of those things, however. Shelly let out a tiny gasp of surprise when the figure emerged from the tapestry.

It was the largest, ugliest goblin Shelly had ever seen. At least, she thought it was a goblin. She hadn't seen many goblins, she had only been to Gringotts once, and this thing was WAY taller than the small, well groomed creatures she remembered. And she was quite sure none of the Gringotts goblins were quite this hideous. The figure in front of her looked as though it had been in a fight with a rabid acromantula while inside a burning building. And judging by the scars on its face and neck, (simultaneously bruised, scraped, punctured, and burned, not to mention the broken nose and the bandages around the pointy ear thing,) the acromantula had won a decisive victory. Shelly had to bite her lip to keep herself from making a noise as the thing walked gingerly in her direction. But before she had even made any kind of decision what to do, the goblin withdrew a small bottle from its filthy, lumpy little shorts, uncorked it, and drank it down in one swallow.

Immediately the goblin fell to the floor, and Shelly, fearing poison, had an urge to rush forward to save it. But the thing was still moving, shifting, changing, and Shelly stared in disbelief. The first things to noticably change were the goblin's pointy side-of-head ear things. With a vague pop sound, they became large and floppy. Next, the entire goblin shrank noticably. Other things changed, bit by bit, until the goblin was quite clearly of a different species. Shelly had never seen a potion that acted like this. The closest thing, of course, was Polyjuice potion, but typically with Polyjuice, you changed all over, gradually, with none of this bit-by-bit stuff. Then again, she had never heard of the effects of a goblin taking, well, any kind of potion. Especially one that changed it into a house elf, for that was, Shelly saw by the dim candlelight, what the ugly goblin had manifested itself into.

The house elf stood gracefully, with none of its previous lumbering, toward the exit of the trophy room. Shelly saw, with horror, that it passed its long fingers over the doorknob several times before letting the door click shut, and Shelly knew how the door had been locked from the inside earlier. She dashed forward and turned the knob, just to be certain, and sure enough, the knob refused to turn. Not knowing anything better to do, Shelly pounded vigorously on the door, and shouted at the (familiar) house elf to open the door. With smug satisfaction, She saw Tinny turn around to oblige.

"Do you think Shellys in danger?" Angelina asked, all thoughts of food were long gone from her mind.
WIllows eyes widened, "Um, maybe..." she groaned, she twisted her ring trying to rpise it off her finger.
"Can't you get that thing off?" Christine said, starin at the horribly burnt finger.
"Its.. magically bound." murmered Willow, "Been trying to.. get it off.. since I got it."
"I guess we will have to sue it to our advantage then, I guess that where ever we find the dark magic, we find Shelly."
"Oh, great."

[OOC: sorry for not posting for so long. Willow: thanks for the tortillas!]

"Hold your arm out." Angelina ordered Willow, who looked at her questioningly. Angelina shrugged. "Well, I thought if you held your arm out you could follow the ring, or something. Or you could point the way for us."
Willow just looked at her disbelievingly. "I suppose I could turn around and see which direction gives off the most dark magic."
"Good idea." said Christine.
Willow turned around a few times, holding her arm out. She finally stopped, facing a wall, with her hand pointing upwards.
"It's coming from somewhere upstairs." she told them.

"Right lets go!" shouted Angelina, giddily.
Christine looked at the finger which was now turning green, "Erm, after we find Shelly, we'll find some way of removing it and erm heal your finger with some sort of potion."
"good." said Willow, atleast she wasn't talking as much now.....
Running up a flight of stairs and past a picture of pompous looking men in top hats who shouted rude names at the girls, they reached another empty hallway. Willow jabbed her finger into the air  and rotated on the spot.
"Right, that way." she murmered, pointing down the hallway.
"OK then! Lets go get Shelly!"

The three Hufflepuffs set off in the direction Willow had indicated, but soon Christine grew uneasy.  They had been walking down the same corridor for a while now, and they hadn't come across one door or adjacent hallway.  She was sure she had never seen this corridor before.

"Er, guys?" Christine said, quickening her pace to catch up with Willow and Angelina.  "Do either of you think it's a llittle weird that we've been walking down the same hallway for nearly-" she paused to check her watch- "15 minutes, and we haven't seen a single door or classroom, or anything?"  Her voice grew quicker and higher and she drew to the end of her sentence.

"This place does feel a little weird." Willow agreed, stopping.  She looked around the corridor quizzically for a moment before exclaiming "Ow!"

"What's wrong?"  asked Angelina.  Willow held up the hand with the ring.

"It's burning even more, and I still can't get it off!" Willow whimpered, trying without success to remove the Devicening from her finger, which had now started to turn a black color.

"Where's it coming from?  Can you tell?" Christine asked, glancing warily at Willow's finger.  She decided that if they couldn't find Shelly soon, they were going to have to give up.  They had to get Willow to the hospital wing as soon a possible.

"I can try."  said Willow, and rotated on the spot again, her arm outstretched.  She had turned almost a whole circle before she stopped suddenly, wincing in pain.  "There, it's coming from in there."  Willow was pointing at a solid stone wall.

"Aha! I knew it was that evil-looking stone wall!" Angelina exclaimed, but the others gave her sceptical looks. She shrugged.
"Well, I don't see you guys coming up with any better ideas." she murmured.
"How about we blast it open?" Christine asked. The others nodded, and she pulled her wand out and pointed it at the wall. "Reducto." A beam of light came out of Christine's wand, ricocheted off of the "evil" wall and towards them.
"DUCK!" Willow screamed. The spell whooshed over their heads, and blasted the wall behind them.

Meanwhile, Shelly watched as Tinny (for lack of a better name) creaked open the door to the trophy room, a strange gleam in her eye. Shelly was just in the process of deciding whether to lie to the elf or not, when she jumped into the room, knocking Shelly back a few inches, and shut the door in one fluid motion. Shelly sputtered in rage and made a futile attempt to open the door up. Of course, it stayed firmly shut.

She rounded on the house elf, on the verge of totally kicking Tinny's you-know-what, only to find that she was scuttling toward the tapestry concealing the entrance to the HERRC. "Oh, no you don't!" shouted Shelly, sprinting after the elf. Tinny squeaked in fear and dove headfirst into the tunnel, but Shelly managed to grab her tiny foot and haul her out.

Shelly held the squirming elf upside down by its ankle, dodging the thrashing punches and kicks aimed at Shelly's head.  Finally, having exhausted herself, Tinny calmed down and Shelly bent down to peer at the creature she held in her hand. She could detect no trace of the goblin-thing that had emerged from the HERRC earlier. Shelly was beginning to wonder, was this a goblin pretending to be a house-elf, or vice versa? Well, thought Shelly, there's one way to find out.

If this was a bona-fide house elf that worked for Hogwarts, it would have to obey any command that Shelly gave, because she was technically a staff member. Therefore, if she didn't obey, she must be a different species, thought Shelly.

"Tinny," said Shelly forcefully. "Raise your right hand."

Tinny paused for a second, and Shelly, thinking she was about to obey, leaned in slightly closer. However, instead of folloing the order, Tinny dealt Shelly a kick to the ribs with her free foot and, having caught Shelly off guard, struggled free and ran away. Shelly had had the wind somewhat knocked out of her, but as she was catching her breath, she noticed that Tinny was running, not toward the HERRC, but to the very back of the room. Shelly scowled and began to half run, half jog to chase Tinny. The house elf faded into the unlit corners of the back of the trophy room, but Shelly kept running after her.

When she reached the stone wall at the very back of the room, she saw no trace of either goblin or elf. Shelly had just about lost her temper again, and she kicked the wall in frustration. To her very great surprise, a loud explosion rocked the room at that very moment and a large hole appeared in the stone wall. Maybe Shelly had been angrier than she knew? She glanced out the hole in the wall and there she saw Angelina, Christine, and a thoroughly miserable-looking Willow, all looking dismayed at the damage they had caused. "Hey!" said Shelly, for lack of anything better to say. "Who do you guys think you are? Me?!? What did you do?"

But just as they had opened their mouths to answer, Shelly decided that she didn't want to know. In fact, she wanted to get out of this area, because she was sure to get blamed for tearing down the wall. "Never mind," she said before they could get the words out. "Come here."

Shelly recounted the whole story--except the part where she had practically been beaten up by a house elf--as quickly as she could. The Hufflepuffs then began to tell their story, but Shelly was scarcely listening--until they got to the part about Willow's dark magic detector. "Let me see that," said Shelly. She had always been a little curious about the Dark Arts, but she had never been very gifted in the Defense class, so she didn't really know a whole lot. She examined Willow's ring with fascination. Shelly turned over the ring and, ignoring Willow's wince, looked at the burns it had made on her hand. "Huh," said Shelly. "Not exactly the kind of thing I'd want attached to my finger. Christine, do you still have those potions I gave you to hold?"

Christine reached into her pocket and handed over the small vials. Shelly stowed most of them back in her own pockets, but picked up one filled with a beige liquid and uncorked it. "You want me to take that thing off?" said Shelly. "I think this'll do it."

"What is it?" asked Willow tenatively.

"This? It's got a few different uses. It's primarily take orally as a laxative, but it also makes a very effective lubricant. I think if I coated your finger with it, the ring might slip off." Shelly regretted that she was having to give away that she had all these potions. It might lead to tricky questions about why she had brought them in the first place. Man, all she had wanted to do was go down to the kitchens and get the house elves to... well, maybe tomorrow. For now, Shelly had things to do, places to be. She shook the potion a bit, to see if Willow wanted to try getting the ring off.

"Yeah, please just get it off, I think my fingers getting infected." she winced and swore loudly as Shelly rubbed the potion on her finger and prised the ring, along with some of willows dead blackened skin, off.
"Ew, our finger smells like burning." said Angelina, wrinkling her nose.
"Thanks, Angelina, just what I wanted to hear." snapped Willow.
Christine spoke quickly, Willow was becoming increasingly more irratable from the pain, "I think we should get you to the hospital wing."
"Yes," murmed Willow looking at her finger, "But shouldn't some of us stay behind and look for Tinny? She might be hanging around making trouble."

"Well, yeah, I'm staying," said Shelly impatiently. "You guys do what you want, but I'm going after that thing. Sorry about your finger. If I had my wand I could help, but I'm not even allowed to do magic. It's a pity, I was pretty good at healing spells in N.E.W.T. Charms. Got an E on my exam and everything." Shelly began pacing the space where Tinny had disappeared, looking for some hint as to her whereabouts. Of course, the house elves could apparate and disapparate inside the school, could Tinny have done that? If so, Shelly was unlikely to ever find her again. She was beginning to think there wasn't even much of a point of searching. Except... it was personal now. Tinny had called for her via a note on her fork for goodness sakes. And then she had kicked Shelly. Shelly could not think of a time when anyone--or anything-- had done violence to her and gotten away with it unscathed.

Just as Shelly had about given up all hope, she noticed something she hadn't seen before. There was a tiny crack in the floor at the base of a Special Award for Services to the School; caught in the gap was a small rip of fabric. Shelly pulled it out and examined it--she was sure it was part of Tinny's towel that she wore. Shelly put both hands on the award and pushed hard. She needn't have pushed so hard, the base slid easily forward, revealing a small secret compartment. Shelly peered down, then crawled in headfirst. "You guys coming?" she shouted back to the others.

"I'm coming."  said Christine, all thoughts of Willow and the hospital wing driven out of her mind.  She had just reached Shelly and was about to follow her when she heard Willow.

"What about us?"  she asked, crossing her arms moodily.  "You can't just leave us here!"

"You guys are free to come."  Christine said, turning back towards the compartment.  She had one leg into the thing when Willow spoke out again.

"What about my finger!"  she whined, holding up her blackened finger.

"Well, um, I can try healing it."  said Christine anxiously.  She had never done it before, but she knew the charm from a book she had found in the library.  She would have asked Shelly, but glancing back she saw that Shelly was already a good way down the passage.  Apparently she had decided to let them work it out on their own.

Christine pulled out her wand, drew her leg out of the compartment, and walked over to Willlow and Angelina.  She took Willow's injured hand in her own and pointed her wand at it.

"Wait,"  said Willow, pulling her hand away a bit, "have you ever done this before?"

"Well... no,"  Christine admitted, "but I've read about it in books.  I know the incantation and everything."  She tried make her voice sound more confident than she felt.

Willow looked nervous.  "What if something goes wrong?"

"Look, Shelly's going to be way ahead of us if we wait much longer.  Do you want me to heal your finger or not?"

"Fine."  said Willow, thrusting her hand back into Christine's.

Christine took aim with her wand again, and softly said "Episkey."  A moment went by when nothing happened, and then, before their eyes, Willow's finger seemed to unburn, if such a thing was possible.  After another moment, it was almost back to normal.  There were still a few small scorch marks, but overall Christine thought she had done well.  Better than she expected, anyway.

"Wow!  That was cool."  said Angelina excitedly, staring at Willow's finger.

"Yeah, well we'd better hurry up if we want to catch up to Shelly."  Christine turned her back on the girls and walked back to the compartment.  She was almost in when she realized that neither Angelina nor Willow had followed her.  "You two coming or what?"

[OOC:  Is Episkey the charm for healing?  I think I remember it from HBP put my copy is loaned out right now so I can't check.]

"Yeah course!" Willow strutted forward and Angelina held a snigger. She leaned lazily against the wall, pretending she had not been crying just a moment ago over her finger.
"Angelina," she demanded, pompously (never know how to spell that word!), "Are you coming?"
Christine rolled her eyes as Angelina replied.

"Of course I am. You really think I'm going to stay here?" she answered. She looked around the trophy room and then said in a small voice, "Alone?" she whimpered and scurried after Willow into the compartment. As soon as she had entered, the door shut with a bang, and the four were plunged into darkness. Three whispers of "lumos" quickly followed, and the compartment was lit up.

"Gosh , who designed this, it's so drab!" exclaimed Willow.
"I'm going to ignore you said that." muttered Shelly.
"I was just saying..." started Willow.
"Well, how about, oh i don't know YOU DON'T!" said Christine angrily.
"But..." Willow started agin but was soon drowned out by their screams as the compartment plungend down forver into the earth and then stopped with a sickening lurch. A stone wall scraped open, the sound making the hairs on the back of Willows neck rise.
"Ladys first." Willow whimpered.
"Good idea." snapped someone behind her and pushed her into the tunnel. Gingery she slid through the roughly cut tunnel, her knees and hands bleeding from the sharp broken bones underneath, she could hear someone whimpering behind her and then she fell, screaming.
