[Okay, I found the old ballad that I wrote.  I think I already received points for this in days gone by, but I wanted to post it again, since we've started this thread again.]

[The ballad/poem actually began with three stanzas basically degrading each of the three non-Gryffindor houses, saying why they're all so subordinate and inadequate in comparison to Gryffindor.  In a spirit of sportsmanship, however, I've deleted that part of the poem.  I say this only to explain why the poem starts off as if it's in the middle of something...it's because it is!   The "three" in the first stanza below, for example, is referring to the other three houses that I've just dissed in the preceding stanzas, not printed here. :-\ ]

Thus GRYFFINDOR now takes the stage,
Oh shining light in a darkened age!
Best qualities of the three here meet
to bring the Dark Lord sure defeat,
Voldemort will face defeat!

In you ambition lays not to rest
nobility in Godric's breast,
and bravery, strength of heart and mind,
leave not your loyalty behind,
Loyalty shall always bind.

But to these all are added still
The COURAGE of a steeled will,
One that will face e'en sure destruction,
For the wizarding world's protection,
For the entire world's protection!

One that HIM meets face to face
Whose name the lesser dare not place.
For GRYFFINDOR is best of all
And if you fail, then ALL SHALL FALL,
And if you fail, then ALL SHALL FALL!

Our hope lies here: that you shall last
Through all that shall now come to pass.
So long as you shall lead us on,
Voldemort shall from us be gone,
OH COME THE DAY VOLDEMORT IS GONE!

Wow! I don't think I'd be able to write a song for Hufflepuff. *racks brain* not really, but I'll have a try...

Hufflepuff is my home house
And there I wish to stay
'Cos Hufflepuffs are there for me
All throughout the day
Oh Hufflepuff, Oh Hufflepuff
How I would miss you so
If I were to be expelled
For being a bad so and so
We  Hufflepuffians are just and loyal
Not to mention patient
And unafraid of toil
Though I do not know what "toil" means
So fellow witches and wizards tell me please
How could I forget the place
Where I live in Hogwarts grace

Erm... that's it. I was going to write about the house founder but I'm not sure whether she's called Helga or not. Also, I'm not joking, I don't know what toil means ???

I will have a crack at this as the first Slytherin to sing a song here. Please do not laugh as I'm not too good with song writing.
Here goes...

I've been sorted
I'm in Slytherin
I didn't think I was ambitious
But now I know we'll win

Ours the House Cup will be
We'll use our cunning and wits to win
You'll see
We're here to stay
Each and every day
The great hall
will be decorated
In silver and green hues
All the other houses can lick our shoes
We are so great
This is no mistake
We have lots of tricks up our sleeves
We'll get the Bloody Baron to use Peeves

I've been sorted
I'm in Slytherin
I didn't think I was ambitious
But now I know we'll win

[Angel what's all that about? Home house? What's up with you man? Hehe I suppose that's just the way you hufflepuffs work. Anyway no offence to anyone by my song. It was inspired a bit by Linkin Park's song Numb ]

[Well it's my home what I live in (at Hogwarts) and it's my house, you know like one of the four houses.]
I think I'll have another crack at this songwriting lark.
To the tune of wet wet wet Love is all around (i feel it in my fingers)

I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
I am in Hufflepuff
And the Sorting Hat knows

I know my house will be there
It always will
Helga began it
It will have no end
'Cause Hufflepuff
Is where I have lots of friends

We are just and loyal
I still don't know what toil means
And we're also unafraid of toil
So off we go

[Haha that was a bit crud I like my other one better.]

[Dictionary definition of toil: v.intr. 1. work laboriously or incessantly. 2Make slow painful progress (toiled along the past).
n. prolonged or intensive labour; drudgery. [from Latin tudiculare 'to stir about'] toiler n.
there you go. I don't understand what all the intr. is for. Anyway, I'll have a go at this house thing.]

Give me a H-U-F-F
And Huff!
give me a H-U-F-F-L-E
and huffle!
give me a P-U-F-F
And puff!
Give me a H-U-F-F-L-E-P-U-F-F
HUFFLEPUFF!

[Okay that was a bit feeble I'll try another one]

A noble, honest house
of a yellow hue
A Hufflepuffian is hardworking
A Hufflepuff is true.
From the early dawn
Until the late dusk
We Hufflepuffs unite
Then to our comfy beds retreat
And wish all a good night.

A Hufflepuff is patient
A Hufflepuff is loyal
A Hufflepuff is just
And unafraid of toil
A Hufflepuff I was sorted
And will always be
For I am a Hufflepuff
And a Hufflepuff is me.

Hufflepuffs of Hogwarts
Points we must receive
The House Cup will be ours
If many points we receive

A Hufflepuff is patient
A Hufflepuff is loyal
A Hufflepuff is just
and unafraid of toil.

[I take poetry very seriously by the way.]

[Sung by an older guy with a cracked, twangy voice and playing a banjo.  He's probably got a bassett hound named Rufus sitting at his feet.  Think West Virginia...]

Oh, thar' ain't no place like home,
And home is Gryffindor.
Oh thar' ain't no place like home,
Where the lion's heard to roar.

Well, you can tie me up till I just can't move,
You can block my way, but you'll only prove
That whatever you do, you will only lose
To the best house: Gryffindor.

See thar's other houses out there,
But none of them's as great.
Thar's other students out there,
But none of them even rate.

Well, you can tie me up till I just can't move,
You can block my way, but you'll only prove
That whatever you do, you will only lose
To the best house: Gryffindor.

Now, I mean no harm to none;
T'ain't no one I'm laughin' at.
I mean no harm to none;
What I say is plain ol' fact:

Well, you can tie me up till I just can't move,
You can block my way, but you'll only prove
That whatever you do, you will only lose
To the best house: Gryffindor.

So I think it's pretty clear:
We're the best house; that's well-known
I think it's pretty clear,
That thar ain't no place like home.

Well, you can tie me up till I just can't move,
You can block my way, but you'll only prove
That whatever you do, you will only lose
To the best house: Gryffindor.

[I think Cho's a natural songwriter, doesn't everyone else? I'm going to write a song which will be silly so bare with me. It goes a bit to Phoebe's song to all of the friends gang at christmas (one bit I remember is Monica, Monica, Have a happy Honnaka - probably spelt that wrong)]

Slytherin, Slytherin
We keep on Slitherin'
Slytherin, Slytherin,
The house cup we will win.
And don't forget the quidditch
We will rule the Quidditch pitch.
And remember Professor Snape
Who's name rhymes with grape
So Slytherin Slytherin
We will keep on winnerin'

[I made winnerin' up. It means winning. Strange song.]

[I'll have another go at this]

The Sorting hat has sung,
The Sorting has begun.
Four houses are we sorted to
Four houses must unite
Four houses to be strong together
Four houses not to fight
One of four must I be sorted in
Hufflepuff or Slytherin
Or Ravenclaw or Gryffindor
I'll be sorted into one of the four

I put the hat on
Nothing I can see
The soting hat laughs and says 'Easy'
Then his words are loud and I know enough
He sorts me into Hufflepuff

This house for seven years shall I serve
This house for seven years I will show nerve
This house for seven years to live in
This house for seven years to celebrate in
This house for ages to come I will remember
This house of which I am a member
So Hufflepuffians, be happy and laugh
Because the house I'm in isn't naff!

This is just the beginning, just the chorus, so please don't juge or anything.

We ramble,
We scramble,
We're quite a bit to handle!

Does anyone have a good idea to continue?

[Hmm, might be mean, but let's see ... i dunno if nimwit and git mean the same thing...]

We are better than the rest of them,
us Slytherin use our wits,
unlike those other nimwits and gits.
Who needs courage when we have talent,
we are better than the rest of them.

Although we can be crude to others,
it's only because we care.
But good thing that only some of us,
wouldnt even dare.

We are better than the rest of them,
our colours shining bright.
The house cup will be ours to take,
but not without a fight.

Though stupid you may think we are,
we're smarter than you think,
Slytherin are by far,
better than  the rest.
We are better than the rest.

Can you hear the people sing,
Singing to be a hufflepuff,
We are such a wonderful house,
That they all envy us!

Hufflepuff, we've been here forever.
Fixing your problems,
Helping you out,
And puting that smile on your face,
At the beginning and end of the day!

Can you hear the people sing,
Singing to be a hufflepuff,
We are such a wonderful house,
That they all envy us!

We can understand you,
Will never be mean to you in any way,
Because it is in our nature,
As they say,
To be friendly, loving, loyal,
And well just, perfect!

Can you hear the people sing,
Singing to be a hufflepuff,
We are such a wonderful house,
That they all envy us!

The real world is harsh,
Not waiting for you in with arms wide open.
But if you believe in good,
And believe in hufflepuff,
You will live a happily ever after...

Can you hear the people sing,
Singing to be a hufflepuff,
We are such a wonderful house,
That they all envy us!

Hogwarts, you've accepted me
A long time ago
Hufflepuff you accepted me
you accepted me so
Hufflepuff you are my house
in which I hold my pride
I'm hufflepuff in the way I walk
and in the way I stride
Hufflepuff I live in you
and  Hufflepuff you live in me
The colours of Black and yellow
are truly meant to be
So Hufflepuffs stand together
Hufflepuffs unite
Hufflepuffs be friendly
And have a good night

[I'm feeling patriotic today]

This is fun.  ;D Here's one to the tune of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas":

We Wish You a Great Gryffie Year

We wish you a great Gryffie year.
We'll have some real good fun,
Because we really have no fear,
Even though we may seem kinda dumb.

It doesn't matter how our grades are
As long as we throw a million parties.
We're better than a bear,
Cause we're lions but we won't tease.

We wish you a great Gryffie year.
We'll have some real good fun,
Because we really have no fear,
Even though we may seem kinda dumb.

Not my best, but this is really Hard. Mad, Cho, and Shelly's are all better than mine in my opinion. Go Gryffindor!  ;D *points to signature*  ;)

OK, I've been away far too long. It's time to dust off the old book on parody-writing, and bring this thread back to life.

*plays old horror-movie music*
LIVE!! LIVE!! I COMMAND YOU TO LIVE!!! MWAHAHAHA! *thunder*

Er... right. Got a little carried away.

EDIT: OK, I've deleted these out of sheer humiliation. Sorry to bother you. *dies* Actually, they're there, because I didn't want to lose them for good, but they're teeny-tiny and invisible.

EDIT again... Put them back to right, at Cho's request. Excuse me while I go cut holes in a paper bag for eyes, and then place it over my head

~*~*~

To the tune of Heaven, by Bryan Adams

Oh, thinking about my younger years
Sorted into Gryffindor
At first I thought "what for?
Now, I know that it was meant for me
This is the house that I need, that's what I say!

I would have come here anyway!

Baby, I'm in Gryffindor
And I've found where I belong!
It isn't too hard to know
This is Heaven!
And even the tricks that I play
Are just coming from the heart
Believe me when I say
I'm in Heaven!

Oh, here people understand me
I feel accepted here,
(Even when I'm not wanted near!)
Yeah, I know my Gryff's are there for me
Even when I turn them into bumblebees!

Thats why they hear me when I say

Baby, I'm in Gryffindor
And I've found where I belong!
It isn't too hard to know
This is Heaven!
And even the tricks that I play
Are just coming from the heart
Believe me when I say
I'm in Heaven!

This is heaven...

~*~*~

And here's the other one:

To the tune of This Love by Maroon 5

This is my song, and I hypothesize
That others will just think it lies
But still I must confess my mind.
That here on Hogsmeade I feel right at home
The message board that Ping formed
Is right here in my heart

This house is taking control of me
I love it here, and as I’ve said before;
My housemates make it all possible
This is for them; They’re my friends in Brave ol’  Gryffindor!

First there’s AZ, the one who’s just like me
(Even seventeen like me)
Keeps ‘em on their toes like me
Then there is the prefect Madeleine
The one with baby Madeleine
Who’s been here from the start
This house is taking control of me
I love it here, and as I’ve said before;
My housemates make it all possible
This is for them; They’re my friends in Brave ol’  Gryffindor!

The other prefect’s Cho
She’s so smart, but I know
That she is also quite kind
Lauren’s an artist
And her art really is
Some of the best drawings I’ve ever seen
This house is taking control of me
I love it here, and as I’ve said before;
My housemates make it all possible
This is for them; They’re my friends in Brave ol’  Gryffindor!

My house has got its control of me
My favorite site, and even though you know
This song is ever-so-corny
But I know you know you like it anyways!

This house is taking control of me
I love it here, and as I’ve said before;
My housemates make it all possible
This is for them; They’re my friends in Brave ol’  Gryffindor!

The quantity of consonants in the English language is constant. If omitted in one place, they turn up in another. When a Bostonian "pahks" his "cah," the lost r's migrate southwest, causing a Texan to "warsh" his car and invest in "erl wells."

Re: House Songs

It's more of a poem, but it can qualify for a song.

"The greatest of the Hogwarts Four",
And so when you walk in the door
Say to all that silver and green
Are the top colors ever seen.

We'll stack the deck, we'll weight the dice,
'Cause we think winning's very nice;
We get the Hufflepuffs to do
our work for us, so we pass too.

Yes, we're full of great ambition,
The Gryfs think we're for sedition;
Hufflepuffs say that we're lazy,
Ravenclaws think that we're crazy.

Some of us think that killing's fine,
While others don't hold with that line;
Still others like to blackmail you,
What it takes, we're willing to do.

But we know it's our job to win
The great House Cup for Slytherin;
'Cause in the end it is the snake,
And not the lion, who takes the cake.

I have found that the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of friends often find their paths splitting and running in completely opposite directions.
