Costuming help
« on: September 08, 2003, 04:32:03 PM »

I would love to have wizarding robes for next year's DragonCon. Perhaps even quidditch robes! Anyone know of online sites with help, or do I get to start from scratch?

I have a friend who does that kind of stuff.  I believe his prices are very reasonable. http://www.ravensmoon.com/

You can tell him that Marold sent you and he'll treat you really nice, might even give you a discount.  I'm not sure.

Hmm, I didn't see anything HP-related on his site, though the rest of the stuff looks fine enough. I think I'm going to have to make my own Chudley Cannon outfit. I'm just having second thoughts, because I don't know what to do for the pads. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

If you ask him, he can make practically anything you ask.  And he does have access to Harry Potters Quidditch outfit to make it perfect.

He's trying to get into the Harry Potter stuff, but no one has requested it yet.

Mostly I'm just interested in pads, but that's not a bad place to start, and I'd actually send him a pic, unlike the people who don't send me pics of the jedi outfits I so lovingly make for them. :P

He loves feed back from people.  But I do know that he can get access  to the entire Qudditch robes and things like that.  Along with the arm pads and whatnot.

I went looking for cricket pads online and found some that were shaped very similarly to what I saw in the movie.  Only problem is they're all white, pretty much.  White cloth.  Not leather.  You might be able to dye them bright orange if you want to be a Chudley Cannon, but I'm still not sure it would look right.  Plus, they're prohibitively expensive.  I haven't come up with any other ideas yet.  I'll let you know if I do.

I wouldn't mind using fabric paint or even putting fabric over them. There are plenty of techniques to make stuff look like leather. I have no worries on that score. I've watched too much Trading Spaces to worry about that. The trick is getting the right base. :)
