"It's always nice to take time

out of your busy schedule to admire the many fine pieces of art in the castle Professor Snape. I know I'm usually too busy to notice all of it, which is

truly a shame. We were just on our way to the second floor corridor, there are some very fine paintings there." Lauren continued, not waiting for

Ping to take the bait.

Ping awoke from her terrified stupor.

"Uh, yeah!  Some great paintings....Second floor...corridor....Great.  Paintings.  Right."

She silently kicked herself for sounding

so stupid.  She had been much more useful in a stupor.

The rest followed in something akin to hot

pursuit as Snape watched them with eyes narrowed in suspicion and distrust.

"Second floor corridor, huh?" he said to himself.

"We'll see about that."

He hurried off to find Mr. Filch.

"This is

getting ridiculous!" Lauren exclaimed incredulously. "We haven't done anything wrong, trying to get a snack is hardly a felony, but Snape

seems to have an extremely large stick shoved up his you know what."

"Lauren!" said Ping reproachfully.

"Well, it's

true," she replied defensively. "Look, maybe we should swing by the second floor corridor to cover our tracks, and then go visit Hagrid. At

least the company down there will be good, even if the food is rather sub-par."

It wasn't long before the group was up on the second floor, and

true to their word to Snape, actually admiring the art.

"Look at this ugly one!" exclaimed AZ, "Who could have imagined that Salazar

Slytherin was such an ugly git?"

The man in the portrait narrowed his eyes in distaste, and sniffed distainfully. "I most certainly am not

Salazar Slytherin young man, and I don't seem to recall asking you. The ladies certainly were of a different opinion, back in the day. And if I were you,

I'd invest in a hair cut. You look like you could use one."

Lauren looked towards where AZ nodded

his head, glimpsed Mrs. Norris, and said, "Right.  Sir Cadogan it is, then.  We must be comprehensive after all."

Wearily, the

group headed toward Sir Cadogan, knowing that once they started talking to them, they'd never get any food or get to Hagrid's.

Halfway there, Lauren stopped.

ridiculous!"

Warily, they all looked around but saw no

sign of Mrs. Norris.  She must have gotten bored and given up trying to catch them at something mischievous, they all decided.

"No," said Cho thoughtfully.

"It's just that for today, Snape seems to have a snitch up his nose and wants to take it out on us. Maybe he's been told again that he's

not getting the DAtDA job. How many years in a row would that make?"

"Yeah," said Cho hesitantly,

"let's just go."  As she turned to keep walking, she caught something out of the corner of her eye.

"Peeves!" she yelled.

The mischievous poltergeist cackled gleefully.  "Peeves, you're up to something.  I just know it."  But Peeves just cackled some more, gave

them a knowing, meaningful glance, and disappeared through the wall.

"I don't like it," Sabriel muttered.  "He's going to do

something to get us in trouble.  Let's get out of here."  In solid agreement, they began to hurry down the hall.  But the sound of Professor Snape's

voice brought them all to a halt.

At that point, Madeleine, the Gryffindor

prefect, walks in to see this, er, interesting sight.

"Peeves!" yelled Mad.  "Peeves!  If you don't stop right now, I'm going to

make sure that Professor Dumbledore talks to the Bloody Baron about this!"

That seemed to give the poltergeist some pause.  He stopped

to look at her, utensils in hand, and said, "Would not!" and began heading toward AZ again.

OOC:

GREAT!

"Peeves," Mad said mockingly, "Nobody told you about the charmed alarumsticks Professor Dumbledore gave the

prefects in case of emergency, did they?  Figures, they probably didn't want you stealing them."  She pulls a twig out of her pocket.  "Well,

as soon as I break this, Dumbledore will know there's trouble, and you can bet he'll be here in a jiffy."  She grings at the poltergeist, threateningly

fingering the twig.
