Hogwarts (No Spoilers) / Re: Visit Hogwarts?

A good friend of mine went.  He said the shops were nice, and the castle was really cool, but overall, the experience wasn't worth the price.

This wasn't the story I saw originally, but it delivers the same content, more or less:  http://scifimafia.com/2010/04/j-k-rowling-says-she-may-revisit-the-world-of-harry-potter/

Lightening may strike me for saying this, but I was disappointed.  I felt the split of the book into 2 movies slowed the first movie's pacing.  I am all for prolonging the HP experience, but after being frustrated after story lines and characters (I really wish Peeves had been in the movies) were cut in prior movies, the page for page tracking of the book feels belabored in this most recent movie.  I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.

So, I heard a rumor that JKR is thinking about reconsidering her "seven books is all" statement, and revisiting the HP universe with more books.  Has anyone heard anything similar?

I wonder if the change in music is due to the director - I can't remember the music from Order of the Phoenix to compare.

I agree - I really liked the movie until I realized what I had been cut.  I can't imagine how the last book can be stretched into 2 movies with so much of the story that was set forth in this book being cut.  Maybe some of the story will be inserted into the last 2 movies, but I am skeptical.

While the return of Quidditch was fun, I could have used less Quidditch and more of the necessary story.

Just checking in to say hi and that I have been missing the site as well.  I deleted a few spam posts when I checked in - hope that was ok.

I think you are right about the song - I don't remember it being anywhere in the movie.

I am curious how the next movie will open with the elimination of the Fleur/engagement/wedding storyline from this film.

All in all, I really liked this film.  The infusion of humor was a nice contrast to the dark ending we knew would occur.

I haven't seen the pictures - where are the links?????  I would love to look at them.  The Universal website has several "artist renderings" of what it may look like.  I can only imagine how hard it is going to be to get into the park when it opens.  However, I am sure I will be one of the masses.

That may do the trick.  I love when the Harry Potter movies are released around the holidays, though.  I began reading the books during the holiday season, and that time of year has stuck as a close association for the mood of the films.  Don't get me wrong, they are great in the summer as well, but there is something about watching the movies and then going outside where it is cold.  Makes me crave butter beer . . .

She makes me jealous - BANG - her first book, and a hit series.  I have several partially finished novels, but can't ever seem to get them developed deep enough to merit completion.  I haven't read the Host  yet - I have taken a detour and started Wicked.

I liked it - I have been calling it literary Cheetos.  Not high in nutrition, but yummy and easy to put away quickly.  However, it could be because I am looking for something to fill the huge Harry Potter sized void in my reading agenda.

I share your concern, Ping.  So much back story has been eliminated in other movies, I am not sure how the full story can be captured in this film.  There has been little to no reference to R. Black.  He will have to be introduced, and his story, to make this work.

I just saw the movie trailer for Twilight, and Robert Pattinson (who played Cedric Diggory) is Edward.  Very nice casting.

The Shrieking Shack (Spoilers) / Re: Seventh film split
« on: March 13, 2008, 05:25:17 PM »
Preach on.  I would rather have seen Goblet of Fire broken into 2 movies than Deathly Hallows.  I am convinced WB doesn't want to let the Harry Potter cash cow go, and that is the only reason the movie is being broken into 2 parts.  Actually, while I liked Deathly Hallows, I found it to drag in places more than the other books.  Don't get me wrong, I will go see both movies and buy the DVDs.  However, I wish more detail had been included in the earlier movies when the mystery surrounding the end of the series still swirled in the air.  Now that the ending is known, I don't see where 2 detailed movies are nec.  UNLESS, dare I to dream, JKR writes an expanded prologue giving more detail about what happens in the future for our favorite trio.  That, I would enjoy.

Maybe I am the cynic, but I think breaking the movie into 2 parts is a way of milking the cash cow that is the Harry Potter series.  I think detail in the earlier movies was more important to set up the conclusion; however, once they are at the end - the end of the story is not as hard to tell.  I am worried that the battle scenes will mirror the Quidditch matches - lots of time to get more popcorn and go to the restroom.

IMDB.com is reporting that the book will likely be made into 2 movies!   ;D

Here is what is being reported

Harry Potter Finale To Be Split Into Two Movies?
The last installment in the Harry Potter movie franchise may be released in two parts - because one edit of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows could leave out too much information about the boy wizard's final adventures. The sixth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, is due for release in November, and although the characters' futures are wrapped up in just seven novels by author J.K. Rowling, fans of the movies will be given an extra treat with a double dose of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. A source says, "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on (evil wizard, Lord) Voldemort (played by Ralph Fiennes) that needs to be done really well." And Rowling has briefly commented on the reports herself, stating on her website: "It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long." Fans of the books have previously criticized the big-screen adaptations for their lack of detail.

Entertainment Weekly had an article a few weeks ago discussing that JKR had hand written an 8th book, but did not give any more details.  I wonder what will happen to this book.  I hope that it will be made available in some form so that all the fans can enjoy it.

BTW - I meant, Rita needs to be replaced, and you would be great.  I did not mean that you were akin to Rita.
