I want to know more about Crookshanks.  And how three kids still in school managed to become animagi -- not too easy a feat, even for more advanced wizards.

2
I dunno about the Peverells being descendants of Slytherin -- if it's true, then I, too, missed that part (I think rather that Slytherin was a descendant of the middle Peverell) -- but the Peverells were all brothers, weren't they?  Then Harry and LV are related, even though distantly, because their ancestors were brothers.  They were cousins, several-times-removed.

Thus, JKR's whole "NO, Harry and LV were NOT related" is bunk.  Bunk, I tell you!

Didn't she also say once that Harry was not a horcrux?

*seethes*

Also, WHERE oh WHERE was Mrs. Black????? [EDIT:  Sorry, Pen, I just noticed that you had said the exact same thing in your post above mine.  You get credit for thinking of it first.]

I was so looking forward to seeing her screaming at the Order.  No house-elves on the wall, either, I notice.

I'll say it again.  I WISH they had waited until all 7 books were out before making even the first movie.  You can't cut out unimportant stuff when you don't know what's going to be important.

Yeah, sure, go ahead and cut out where the kids are cleaning up Grimmauld Place.... now how are you going to play the scene where Harry remembers seeing the locket...... really gonna mess up movie 7, won't it?

Idiots.   :P

BTW, Penny, I also pre-ordered a book yet still stood in line to get one.  Overkill, perhaps .... ?

Now that the seventh book is done, I'm finally getting around to looking at my own level.  Seventh year!!!  Time for a title change.

What should it be?

Harry looked at his mother.

"Stay close to me," he said quietly.

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWL-HAWWWWWWW-AAAAAALLLLLLL.....

I don't think Daniel has a shot of doing anything besides "joke roles" and cameos.  He will be known as Harry Potter for the rest of his life, poor boy, unless he pops up with a wicked tan, bleached blonde hair, and a muscular physique.  If that happens, he can always have a career as my poolboy.   >:D

Rupert will retire from acting, I think.

Emma will appear in Playboy once she turns 21.  Just wait and see.

The Shrieking Shack (Spoilers) / Re: Order of the Phoenix Movie

My first thoughts were....

Since when is Dudders cross-eyed?

Gee, the "Noble House of Black" has VERY small corridors....

Why the heck are Ron and Hermione dressed as the Bobbsey Twins?

Why did they not show the locket being found?  Isn't it likely that the locket in book 6 is the same or similar to the one found in book 5?

Why did they not have everyone's favorite poltergeist saluting the twins' departure?  (My favorite part of the book!)

No St. Mungo's???

What happened to the Brain Room?  And all the other rooms in the DoM?

Why didn't they make it clear that Trelawney is the one giving the Prophecy?  It explains why Dumbledore kept her on at Hogwarts for so long!

But all in all, it was the best movie of the lot so far.  They did very well on the Umbridge bit, esp. her office (I had nightmares about the kitties, no kidding), the Black Family Tree was done well, the Ministry was *outstanding*, the new way of doing "fireplace talks" was SO much classier than movie 4, and I'm glad they didn't have ALL OF HARRY'S LINES SCREAMED OUT LIKE THE BOOK SUGGESTS.  "Quietly furious" was a much better way to go.  Not to mention the Extending Ear scene with Crookshanks was hilarious.

I was disappointed with the Dept. of Mysteries, the flashback sequences, Tonks, Kingsley, and the lack of St. Mungo's.  Neville seeing his parents..... that could've been done so, so well.

I wish they would've WAITED UNTIL ALL SEVEN books were out before even making the first movie.  It would've solved a LOT of problems.

(P.S.  When Tonks with the pig nose showed up onscreen, my theater companion whispered, "Wow!  Paula Abdul is in this one?")

I've decided to go as Professor Sprout to this year's movie premiere and realized I didn't have a decent hat in my wardrobe.  So I made one -- no sewing required.  If someone else out there does this too, please take pictures as you go along and add them here!  I completely forgot.

WITCH HAT

You will need:
Felt (dark colors work best, but it’s a matter of personal preference)
White posterboard
Pencil
Scissors
Compass
Hot glue gun
Measuring tape

Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of the forehead, right above the ears.  It will be anywhere from 5-9" around, depending on how big the head is.  Take this measurement and then add ½” to end up with Measurement One.

Do you want your brim to be 2, 3, 4, or 5 inches?  Bigger than that?  Decide now.  This will be Measurement 2.

Add Measurement 2 to Measurement One, to end up with Measurement 3.

Measure from the top of your ears to the top of your head, and add 2 ½ inches.  This is Measurement 4.

Using a compass, draw a circle on posterboard to Measurement One.  Draw another, bigger circle with the first circle in the middle, using Measurement 3.

Carefully cut out posterboard brim.  Poke a hole in the very center, use this to cut out your headpiece circle in the middle.  If the posterboard you are using is very thin or flimsy, it might be a good idea to make more than one brim, then tape the pieces together to get it really stiff.

Draw and cut a rectangle that is the height of Measurement 4, and slightly more than Measurement One lengthwise.  This “headband” will connect above the brim.  Make sure it will fit (not too snugly) around your head.  Also make sure that it will go around the inner circle of the brim and not leave any space open; it’s okay if it overlaps though.

Multiply Measurement 2 by 2 ½.  Cut out a dozen strips of the felt this length, about an inch wide.

Take a strip and run a small amount of hot glue on the short edge.  Attach this end to the underside of the brim.  Going lengthwise, wrap the strip around the posterboard brim.  You will be gluing the other end to the felt itself.

Do this with all the strips until you have completely covered the posterboard brim.  You may need more or fewer strips, depending on how big your brim is.  Set this aside to dry.

Take your “headband” rectangle and use it as a guide to cut your biggest piece of felt.  This piece will be exactly the same length and exactly twice the height of your headband.

Hot glue three of the edges of your headband, leaving one long side unglued.  Firmly press the headband to the bottom half of your big piece of felt.  The long side of the headband with glue on it should go about an inch from the very bottom edge of the felt.  It should work so that if you flipped the felt over, the headband would not be seen at all.  Let dry.

Roll the headband and felt into a loose cone that is taller than it is wide.  The headband part should be at the bottom.  Test it around your head first to make sure it fits easily, then hot glue the long edge.  Let dry.

Gather up the top of the cone.  Fold and glue the corners down so that you have a nice pointy top. Lay flat to let dry.

You should have an inch along the bottom of the cone, that is pure felt (no posterboard).  Slip this edge inside the brim and hot glue along the underside of the brim.  The posterboard headband (out of sight) should rest directly on top of the inner circle of the brim.  Set upside-down to dry.

The hat will be loose and floppy at the top.  Bat it around a bit to give it a "weathered" look.

(If you like, you can also add “patches”, with felt that is darker or lighter than your hat.  Simply hot-glue them on wherever you please, then add white glue marks that resemble sewing lines to the edge of the “patch”.)

Feel free to copy this and use it at will; but if you reprint please add that it is the brainchild of Susan (Sweetalker) Bones.

Awesome, awesome HP drawings by a guy who just finished animation school.

If the books are ever made into animated movies, this guy should be the one to design the characters.  Some of these sketches are much, much closer to the ideas I had when reading the books.

Ahhhh.....  That makes total sense.

Severus could get serious brownie points for turning in Trelawney, and hasn't.  Probably Trelawney can sense when someone is intruding on her thoughts (she IS somewhat talented, even if accidentally so).

Give a tidbit of information about the person who posted above you.  Whether it's first impressions, post history, quotes, or opinions.  It can even be something you made up (although to be fair, make it clear that's what you're doing).  Have fun!

I always liked Batman b/c I have kind of a dark nature.  (Gasp!  Surprise!  Slytherin!)  Best comics, too.

The Spiderman movies have totally kicked the crap out of any other superhero movie, though.  Third one looks to be even better.

And I love love love love Heroes now.  I never miss an episode.  I will kill you if you get in the way of my Heroes.  Understand?????

It's all I have left now that Scrubs.... *sob*.... Scrubs will soon be no more....

Out of all the sequels coming out this summer, which are you more excited to see?  (Not counting Harry, of course.)

Bleh!

Once again, work interferes with the quote-unquote "real world".  Hate it when that happens.

Anywhoo...

Since the book will be out 21 July, and since most kiddies will be out of school then and willing to drag their parents....

Now all I need is a charity to donate the profits (NOT proceeds, cuz I want to break even on this gig) to.

You-all have NO IDEA how much work and research and planning has been done on this.  I, a sleeping member of Hogsmeade US, have been a busy busy lil bee.

I'm still open to ideas!  Is coming to eastern Tennessee in July a possibility?

Maybe Snape, Aberforth, and Albus are all Dumbledores from previous time periods, all coming together for one brief moment so that they can overcome some evil snippity paradoxical villian with chronic halitosis?

Oh noes!  The Dumbledores are coming out of the woodwork!  They're EVERYWHERE!

I ... SEE ... DUMBLEDORES!

...

Sorry.  I couldn't see a topic like this and resist.

I like what somebody else mentioned in another thread; that Harry and LV would be the "two funerals" that JKR mentioned in one of her interviews.  I mean, I would hate it, but it would be awesome.
