Title: Pottermore
Post by: Sirius Black on July 23, 2011, 12:16:27 AM
Hey everyone,

I wasn't sure where this should go; hopefully this is the right spot.  I also didn't see any topics for Pottermore (from a quick search).

Anyway, does everyone know about it?  Are people planning to check it out?  I'm slightly intrigued.... should be interesting, at the least...

I feel the same way. From the little that's been said about it, all I can imagine is similar things to what most HP communities have offered--Sorting Hats, wands, Houses, quidditch games, things like that. I dunno, maybe there'll be a lot more, but that's my first guess, which makes me wonder how exciting it'll be. Time will tell, I guess!

Hey Ping,

Good for you! Report back with findings... I need to sign up - was on the waiting list originally... didn't get in at first though. Need to sign up now that it's open to all, but I've been to busy planning my fiance's and my wedding :-) I'll get around to it at some point...

Haha, thanks! I'm pretty excited :-)

Still haven't had the time to get on to Pottermore... hopefully tonight...

Have you (or anyone?) considered buying the HP e-books?

And rightly so! :)

I fiddled around with it some last night. Basically, so far, I'm going through the first book, chapter by chapter. There are several things from the book, and you can get access to special content, like backstory JKR had but never wrote down or had to cut from the books. I've gotten a wand and been sorted in to Hufflepuff. (Honestly thought it'd be Ravenclaw, but who can fathom the mind of the Sorting Hat?) Tried several times to brew a potion and failed. Snape would be disappointed.

I've thought about the e-books, but or maybe audiobooks, but I haven't really felt the need. Haven't been in much of a reading mood lately.

So, apparently, they've only got one book done. Which they don't actually make clear, so I had to search around the web to figure out what I was doing wrong.

So far, the big activities you can do to earn house points are make potions and ... uh ... I think that's it. The wizard's duel is shut because it's broken. (Or so I understand.) And that means you will run out of money doing potions, apparently. I guess you could sum me up as whelmed. Some cool things, but some broken things. I do kind of enjoy brewing potions. But, well, I guess we'll see what they'll add later.

A bit of an updated. The wizard's duel is open. I just suck at it. I've won like 1 duel out of 10 or so. I suppose if I practice I'll get better, but it's a little weird. You cast one spell by either clicking or typing the letter at the right time to get the most "potency" for your spell, and the wizard with the most potent spell wins.

I'm getting better at the wizard's duel, but so is everybody else, apparently. :) So far, I've only managed to snag 92 points for Hufflepuff. I haven't earned money with any of that, though. But some of the potion ingredients seem to last longer in your inventory than others, so maybe that's okay. I guess. Or something. /still somewhat confused.

Dude, I was sorted into Hufflepuff, too! After about 5 tries, I was successfully able to brew a cure for boils, though it's only a practice potion, so I've not really earned any points for it, yet.  I'm liking all the extra back-story stuff, and especially all the stuff on wands - wand cores, wand woods, etc.

I think it's interesting, though it takes rather longer than I think is optimal. It is fun to see how she envisioned certain things and to get her take on stuff. I'm liking it so far.

Yay Hufflepuff! :)

I can brew some of the potions okay, but one exploded my cauldron, and another doesn't seem to register the things being put in the mortar properly, which is irksome. I've mostly left the potion-brewing aside, as I can't usually come back in a set period of time to check on them. So I stop by and duel a bit and call it good.
